Train Operations in Scotland

Most passenger train services in Scotland are run by ScotRail.

'ScotRail' is a franchise of the Scottish Government which is administered on its behalf by Transport Scotland.  Abellio and Serco took over  the ScotRail franchise in 2015 from First Group.

Scotland has over 2.763 kms of rail network and 351 railway stations.

The Scotrail network sees over 2200 trains operating everyday and carried 92.7 million passengers in 2014/15.

Other train operating companies include East Coast, Cross Country, Virgin Trains and Transpennine Express. These companies run cross-border services to England.
