2019 Calendar of Sustainable Travel Related Events and Key Dates

There are several events dates for 2019 that still need to be confirmed. As soon as we receive confirmation we will be updating with specific dates.


27th March 2019 - Public Health and Sustainable Transport Summit 2019

Transport and public health remain at the top of the policy agenda, with growing political will to drive change in towns and cities. The Government recognises the importance of transport choices in creating healthy places and is committed to supporting local economies, boosting activity levels and cutting carbon emissions.

 1st - 31st March 2019 - Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge  

Sustrans Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge will be returning in March, registrations are now open. Simply register your workplace team and encourage colleagues to join you in logging walking, cycling, public transport and car-sharing journeys to/from work or for business travel.

 25th March - 5th April 2019 – The Big Pedal 

The UK’s biggest cycle and scoot to school event, by Sustrans to encourage children to cycle to and from school. Schools across the country compete to see who can earn the most points by cycling to school.

Awareness raising week aimed at promoting the benefits of walking.

From 29th April 2019 (for 8 weeks) - Paths for All  Spring Step Count Challenge 

Teams from workplaces across Scotland will be challenging themselves to walk more and feel the difference. The challenge supports staff to find simple and sustainable ways of building a little more activity into their working day including; walking to work, going for a lunchtime stroll, walking meetings and using the stairs rather than the lift.

Awareness raising week aimed at promoting the benefits of walking to school.

12th - 18th  May 2019 – Work Wise Week 2019

Raising awareness about smarter working (flexible working, home working, remote working) amongst employees and employers.

12th June 2019 -  2019 Active Travel Conference

The 11th annual Walking, Cycling, Connecting Communities Conference – commonly known as the National Active Travel Conference – returns to Edinburgh at the Corn Exchange.  Celebrating over a decade of promotion and development of Active Travel in Scotland, the conference’s theme is “Widening Access to Active Travel.”

22nd - 30th June 2019 - Green Transport Week 

The aim is to raise awareness of the impact travel has on the environment and to make people think about the way they travel on every journey.

15th August 2019 – Cycle to Work Day 2019

Cycle to Work Day is a national event, championed by multi gold medal winning Paralympic cyclist, Dame Sarah Storey, which aims to encourage everyone to take to two wheels and cycle to work for just one day.

8th September 2019- Pedal for Scotland 

20th Anniversary - An annual charity event aimed at encouraging cycling and raising money for charity. The Glasgow to Edinburgh cycle provides a fun and active day out with colleagues, friends and family – a good opportunity to get a team of employees together to represent the organisation.

TBC September 2019 - European Mobility Week 

This is a European festival promoting environmentally sensitive transport and raising awareness of the nuisances causes by the use of private cars in the city (Air, noise pollution, congestion etc). Good opportunity to promote active travel and public transport usage. 22nd September is Car Free Day.

Encouraging people to join the liftshare network in order to save money cut their carbon footprint and meet like-minded people.

 TBC 2019 - VIBES Award Ceremony

Businesses in Scotland are taking significant steps to improve or reduce their impact on the environment, often saving money in the process. The VIBES - Scottish Environment Business Awards are held each year to recognise and showcase best practice. The prestigious VIBES Award Ceremony will be taking place in Glasgow this year. Awards will be presented by individual sponsors and lunch will be served. Not an event to be missed!
