2018 Calendar of Sustainable Travel Related Events and Key Dates

There are several events dates for 2018 that still need to be confirmed. As soon as we receive confirmation we will be updating with specific dates.



1st and 2nd March 2018- Transport and Health 2018 Conference, Portsmouth

The Conference will bring together all stakeholders working on sustainable transport, active travel and place-related public health projects around the UK to share best practice and knowledge, to learn from one another and to network in and inspirational environment.

1st - 31st March 2018 - Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge  

Sustrans Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge will be returning in March, registrations are now open. Simply register your workplace team and encourage colleagues to join you in logging walking, cycling, public transport and car-sharing journeys to/from work or for business travel.

 23rd April – 4th May 2018 – The Big Pedal 

The UK’s biggest cycle and scoot to school event, by Sustrans to encourage children to cycle to and from school. Schools across the country compete to see who can earn the most points by cycling to school.

1st May 2018 (for 8 weeks) - Paths for All  Spring Step Count Challenge 

Teams from workplaces across Scotland will be challenging themselves to walk more and feel the difference. The challenge supports staff to find simple and sustainable ways of building a little more activity into their working day including; walking to work, going for a lunchtime stroll, walking meetings and using the stairs rather than the lift.

Awareness raising week aimed at promoting the benefits of walking to school.

Raising awareness about smarter working (flexible working, home working, remote working) amongst employees and employers.

Promoting cycling and showing how cycling can easily be part of everyday life.

30th May 2018   –The 2018 National Active Travel Conference, Perth

Walking, Cycling, Connecting Communities National Active Travel Conference is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2018.  “Towards 2027: Seeing More People Travel Actively”?We are interested in both high level strategic projects, and smaller more niche projects and issues. As 2018 is the Year of Young People, we are also interested in hearing about projects which engage young people in active travel and how this will develop over the coming decade.

The aim is to raise awareness of the impact travel has on the environment and to make people think about the way they travel on every journey.

18th - 24th June 2018 – National Ride to Work Day UK 

Raising awareness about the benefits of using motorcycles and scooters to commute to and from work on a regular basis.

15th August 2018 – Cycle to Work Day 2018

Cycle to Work Day is a national event, championed by multi gold medal winning Paralympic cyclist, Dame Sarah Storey, which aims to encourage everyone to take to two wheels and cycle to work for just one day.

9th September 2018- Pedal for Scotland 

An annual charity event aimed at encouraging cycling and raising money for charity. The Glasgow to Edinburgh cycle provides a fun and active day out with colleagues, friends and family – a good opportunity to get a team of employees together to represent the organisation.

16th – 22nd September 2018 - European Mobility Week 

This is a European festival promoting environmentally sensitive transport and raising awareness of the nuisances causes by the use of private cars in the city (Air, noise pollution, congestion etc). Good opportunity to promote active travel and public transport usage. 22nd September is Car Free Day.

29th October 2018 - for 4 weeks  Autumn Step Count Challenge

Raising awareness of smarter working practices and how they can help to avoid the misery of commuting in the dark winter months.

14th November 2018 - VIBES Award Ceremony

Businesses in Scotland are taking significant steps to improve or reduce their impact on the environment, often saving money in the process. The VIBES - Scottish Environment Business Awards are held each year to recognise and showcase best practice. The prestigious VIBES Award Ceremony will be taking place in Glasgow this year. Awards will be presented by individual sponsors and lunch will be served. Not an event to be missed!
