HITRANS

The Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership (HITRANS) is the Regional Transport Partnership covering the Highlands and Islands.

HITRANS works together with the following councils:
• Argyll and Bute Council
• Comhairle nan Eilean Siar
• The Highland Council
• The Moray Council
• Orkney Islands Council

The Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership (HITRANS) is the statutory regional transport partnership covering Eilean Siar (Western Isles), Orkney, Highland, Moray and most of the Argyll and Bute area (Helensburgh and Lomond is covered by SPT).

We’re working hard with Councils, the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, HIE, transport operators and other stakeholders to improve transport services and infrastructure in the north of Scotland and on routes to the Highlands and Islands.

HItravel is an area wide initiative to encourage walking, cycling and use of public transport including buses, rail and ferries in the Highlands and Islands. There has been particular focus on developing active travel maps, and working with the local authorities to develop both infrastructure and behaviour change projects, making it easier for people to walk and cycle, working with our partners Sustrans Scotland, Living Streets and Cycling Scotland.

Since HItravel was launched in 2015, it has been incorporated into Personal Travel Planning projects in Fort William, Nairn, Inverness and Forres.

Additionally, HItravel has improved bus information throughout the HITRANS area, and has improved infrastructure including real time bus stop information and better shelters/stop ,signage and on site timetable information.

In Summer 2017 we will be joining liftshare to develop an area wide car sharing website, which links into the other RTP information, meaning that journeys can be planned in one website for across Scotland.
